The Palm River Room holds up to 800 guests behind glass that runs the full length of the room, floor to ceiling. At 5,500 square feet, it is the biggest room in the building, and the view does not thin out at the edges. The Detroit River and the downtown skyline sit beyond the glass, from the first cocktail hour toast through the last song.

What the skyline looks like at golden hour and after dark

The glass looks out on the river, and downtown sits to the west along it, where the sun goes down. In the hour before dinner is served the skyline goes gold, then pink, then the deep blue photographers wait for. Sunset is on the calendar months in advance, so you can time a toast or a first look to land inside it.

After dark, the skyline turns into lit windows and building lights reflected on the river, visible through the same glass that showed the sunset an hour earlier. Guests do not have to step outside to see it. It is the backdrop for the whole reception, not a photo op you have to schedule around.

The private cocktail-hour bar and how the room flows

The Palm River Room has its own cocktail-hour bar, staffed by the venue, so your guests are never standing in a line that belongs to somebody else's event. That matters more here than in a smaller room: with up to 800 guests moving from ceremony to cocktail hour to reception, a private bar keeps that transition from turning into a bottleneck.

The site fee for any wedding here includes one bartender per 100 guests, so the bar is staffed to the size of the room, not to a single station. The all-inclusive wedding packages set the pour itself: 4 hours of house-brand open bar in Package One, up to 4.5 hours of top-shelf in Package Three.

Ceremony on the deck: $3,850 and the boardwalk walk

A wedding ceremony on the deck below the Palm River Room costs $3,850. That fee covers 30 minutes for guests to arrive, a 30-minute ceremony, the rehearsal, chairs and setup, an aisle built for a grand reveal, photo spots along the water, indoor restrooms, and a weather backup plan in case the forecast does not cooperate.

Guests reach the ceremony by walking the boardwalk, the long dock that runs along the water under a run of string lights, past a white arbor and a pavilion set up for the seated crowd. It is the same dock couples use for portraits before the room is ever opened for dinner.

Seating so every table faces the glass

In a room this size, seating chart decisions matter more than they do in a 150-guest ballroom. Rounds seat 10 at 60-inch tables, and the planning goal in the Palm River Room is simple: keep the head table and most of the rounds oriented toward the glass wall, not toward the entry or the dance floor, so nobody spends the reception with their back to the river.

Tall tops, the gift table, the check-in table and the cake table can sit off to the sides, out of the sightline the glass creates. With 800 guests, that sightline is the reason people booked the room in the first place, and it is worth protecting in the floor plan before linens and chairs ever go out.

Big-room logistics: bartenders, dance floor and timing

A room built for 800 guests runs differently than one built for 150, and it is worth planning for that honestly. The one-bartender-per-100-guests standard means multiple bar stations working at once, not one bar with a long line. Spread them across the room instead of clustering them near the entrance, and cocktail hour moves faster.

The dance floor works best set away from the bar stations, centered so tables at both ends of the room have an equal walk to it. A room this size also means more time between the ceremony ending and dinner being plated, so build that into the timeline rather than assuming it happens on its own. Every one of the weddings here includes a venue coordinator who runs the room on the night, from timing to staff to the moment the doors open.

What a wedding here actually costs

Three numbers make up the total. The per-person package price runs $149, $179 or $219, and that figure already has tax and gratuity built in, along with the food and the bar. Package Two, at $179 a person, is the most popular: a 5-hour reception with 4.5 hours of premium open bar and a plated or buffet dinner.

The site fee is a sliding range, $4,500 to $9,500, set by the per-person rate you choose, your guest count, the date and the room. It is not a flat number, and there is no separate food and beverage minimum on top of it. Add the $3,850 deck ceremony fee if you marry here too, and that is the full picture. When 300 guests fits better: the Marine Room

Not every wedding needs 800 seats. The Marine Room holds up to 300 guests at water level, with glass on three sides instead of one long wall, Belle Isle visible to the east and the skyline visible to the west. It is the historic room, the one with the 1961 hydraulic dance floor and its own attached patio.

A ceremony on the Marine Room's side patio costs $2,750. The Marine Room's layout and features are worth a look if your guest list is closer to 150 or 250 than 800: same river, same family running it, a different kind of room. Either way, the next step is the same: check your date and walk both rooms with the light coming off the water.
