CHAMPAGNE CHRISTENING / UNVEILING OF THE "GALE V" REPLICA
In the summer of 1955, a boat from Detroit, the GALE V, scored a controversial victory in the race of races, the APBA Gold Cup, on Seattle's Lake Washington. Owned by Motor City industrialist Joe Schoenith and driven by his son Lee, GALE V outpointed the team of Bill Muncey and MISS THRIFTWAY in the final standings, 1225 points to 1025. This was in spite of the fact that MISS THRIFTWAY had posted heat finishes of third, first, and first, while GALE V had run second, second, and third.
With that little piece of history, we want to invite you to travel back with us in time to the festivities of the era with our CHAMPAGNE CHRISTENING / UNVEILING OF THE "GALE V" REPLICA.
By attending this party, you are automatically entered into the drawing to take a historic lap on the Detroit River at 100 MPH in this exciting replica!!!
The hydroplane races on the Detroit River, and the panoramic view from our site, are one of the high points of summertime entertainment in Detroit. The Roostertail's waterfront setting is the hottest spot to get the coolest view of the speed and spray of these fantastic power boats.
The Roostertail has a longstanding involvement in the highly exciting sport of hydroplane racing and have been involved since the early 1950's. The Roostertail has become the most renowned and famous place to witness this time-honored Detroit tradition.
As 2009 marks the 100th running of the Gold Cup Racing in North America, thousands of spectators will be in attendance for this spectacular, three-day historic event.
The Roostertail will again be poised to make history as the one and only place to experience the thrills of the Unlimited Hydroplane Racing. Plan to be a part of the Centennial milestone experience by celebrating at the Roostertail.
