The Battle of the Dishes, a fundraiser for CATCH – Charity for Children, will offer an opportunity for Detroit Chefs to showcase their talent and creativity, while highlighting some of the most innovative cuisines around the city of Detroit. You definitely will not want to miss a bite of this.

London Chop House
Chef R.J. Scherer – A Grosse Pointe, Mich. native, R.J. Scherer has been a part of the culinary industry for more than a decade. After attending the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, he furthered his education at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. At the age of 21, he became one of the youngest sous chefs at Emeril’s New Orleans Fish House at the MGM Grand Casino. In his six years there, he worked his way up to executive sous chef. In 2011, he returned home to Michigan where he currently helms the kitchen at Detroit’s London Chop House.
Jared Bobkin, the executive chef of Bayview Yacht Club, says because his mother was an awful cook and his father’s grilling efforts left a lot to be desired, the family ate out a lot.

He a few challenges helped put his life into perspective. “And then when two of my friends wrote a cookbook and the movie ‘Ratatouille’ came out, I felt those were signs that I should pursue my love of food.”

Chef Petro Drakopoulos, a 18 year hospitality vetrean, came to Detroit to open Texas De Brazil downtown, only to fall in love with the city and people. After working in numerous States for Marriott brands, he opened Republica Gastro-pub with his family in 2013, and now will be crafting upscale tacos and Spanish tapas in the newly built Detriot Shipping co.
The high-end taco and tapas concept will open in October in the Detroit Shipping Company shipping container development in the Cass Corridor. It’s a 12,000-square-foot entertainment venue that will include a small collection of upscale food vendors, a beer garden, artists’ space, and start-up retail.
 
Zachary Stotz – After developing a passion for traditional american cuisine at a young age, from his mother, Zachary Stotz honed his skills leading the kitchens at atlas global bistro, three blind mice Irish pub, the Rochester chop house, and Giovannis ristorante, learning to infuse approachable dishes with eclectic world flavors and classic technique.

Thomasina Tedesco is the president and CEO of Edibles Rex, a catering business that provides fresh, creative food for corporate and social events. Since starting the business in 1992, Tedesco has built a reputation for superior customer service, presentation, nutrition and education for customers.
Looking to introduce some culture to the group (and an excuse to drink wine professionally), Sean Omar proposed a weekly Spanish-language lesson among friends while sipping on some Argentinean and Spanish libations. Inspired by the success of the group, and loving a reason to try new wines while teaching the language he loves, Sean decided to take it a step further. Thus, in 2014 the Take-Home Tutor was born, combining the three things most important to him: food, culture, and friends.
Omar A Mitchell, Restaurateur & Executive chef at Craft Creative Catering & Great Lakes Burger Bar, was raised in Detroit Michigan, where he was exposed to a style of cooking that fused unique International cuisine to American Flavor approaches influences to create a flavorful masterpiece.
Omar also owns I Luv Cheese, Italian Restaurant in Sterling Heights, where they pride themselves in having fresh, local ingredients every day.
   
Our Charity

CATCH is an acronym for Caring Athletes Team for Children’s & Henry Ford Hospitals, but is more commonly known as Sparky Anderson’s Charity for Children. Through a series of special fund-raising events and annual donations, CATCH funds items and services that help improve the quality of life for sick, injured and needy pediatric patients who receive care from Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation and Henry Ford Health System.
